Let's Talk About Clearcutting a forestry book for youth ages nine and older that explains the forestry term clearcutting. It is a high quality 32-page paperback which presents objective information on a controversial subject that is interesting and useful to youth and adults alike, even though they may not be familiar with forestry terms. Let's Talk About Clearcutting is available from The Pennsylvania Forestry Association, 56 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. The cost per copy is $7.00. For orders 100+, there is a 20% discount. Also available in Spanish.

Pennsylvania Forests—a quarterly magazine (free with membership) which addresses forestry topics. Each issue has a general theme. Features include "Views You Can Use," "County Up-dates," theme- related articles, book reviews, unsolicited articles, and a four-page Environmental Education insert for youth related as much as possible to the quarterly theme. An index to Pennsylvania Forests magazine and its inserts and supplements 1986 through 1996 is in the Spring 1997 issue. Big Trees of Pennsylvania, 1993—$4. This 8 1/2 x 11 inch laminated softcover publication lists 34 species of "big trees" by definition of circumference, height, average crown spread, and location. Requirements and information for nomination are delineated. Second edition available Fall 2001. 30 pages.
The Crown Jewel of Pennsylvania—$10.00. An 11 x 8 1/2 inch laminated softcover, this book is a documentary on the Pennsylvania State Forest System from 1890-1995. Color and black and white photographs. 97 pages.

Community Forestry Volunteers: A Review of Practical Studies$7.50 including postage. Douglas Still and Henry Gerhold, 1997
A review of the literature of volunteer administration, particularly in community forestry. This 15-page booklet is useful for managers of volunteer organizations and others who plan to use volunteers. The main sections discuss benefits of volunteers, problems of using them, their motivations, planning a volunteer program, recruitment, training, administration, recognition, retention, evaluation, and cost effectiveness. The review encompasses 56 references that are cited.

Forestry Pioneer, The Life of Joseph Trimble Rothrock - $25. E. A. Maass. 2003. A complete biography of the “Father of Pennsylvania Forestry.” He was founder of the Pennsylvania’s state forest system, the Pennsylvania Forestry Association, the Forest Academy at Mont Alto, the Wilkes Barre Hospital, and the first free tuberculosis sanitarium in the U.S.
